Artists respond to the theme of hope. 11th October - 27th November, 2013
Twenty New Zealand artists, from various disciplines (painting, sculpture, photography and applied arts) and using assorted media, have been invited to express themselves within the set template of a 320mm x 320mm wooden cross.
The resulting exhibition, entitled "How Iconic", showcased 40 artworks expressing the theme of hope. It was a unique opportunity to acquire artworks by both emerging and established artists for less than $500 apiece.
Artists selected for this exhibition were required to purchase a host shape. The crosses were cut from 9mm MDF and measure (width) 320mm x (length) 320mm. Both arms were 100mm in breadth.
Light At The End Of The Tunnel
I am hoping to portray in this image the feeling of hope that one may feel when their spirit is suffering a deep depression. Through the love and help of their family they have found their way out of the 'dark' tunnel of 'despair' and into the 'light' of 'hope'. So often depression can lead to suicide which affects the whole family and 'hope' and belief can make the family strong.
