Artists respond to the theme of hope. 11th October - 27th November, 2013
Twenty New Zealand artists, from various disciplines (painting, sculpture, photography and applied arts) and using assorted media, have been invited to express themselves within the set template of a 320mm x 320mm wooden cross.
The resulting exhibition, entitled "How Iconic", showcased 40 artworks expressing the theme of hope. It was a unique opportunity to acquire artworks by both emerging and established artists for less than $500 apiece.
Artists selected for this exhibition were required to purchase a host shape. The crosses were cut from 9mm MDF and measure (width) 320mm x (length) 320mm. Both arms were 100mm in breadth.
The Growth of Hope in a Concrete Jungle
Concrete jungles, war-torn countries and impoverished communities - grey, drab and totally bereft of colour. 'Despair' has set up home here! And in one small window the insistence of 'hope' quietly grows in the form of a small seedling - refusing to conform to what is and to its surroundings. Happy to change and flourish as it grows...ohhhh, the beauty of 'Hope'!
