"Kia Mau Ki To Ukaipo" "Your past, present and future”.
This Artwork is of a stunningly beautiful area on New Zealand's East Cape, "Wharekahika" (also known as "Hicks Bay") leading onto Onepoto (also known as "Horseshoe Bay"), out to the headlands and in the far distance the East Cape. My husband’s Whanau are from this area and I have been so privileged to have enjoyed such beautiful scenery and the aroha of the Whanau from this area.
As much as the East Cape is beautiful, it is very foreboding at times and gives a subtle reminder to treat with respect. When the weather turns "atmospheric" like this it gives an ominous feeling of Tipuna (Ancestors) keeping a watchful eye from the hills and bush which brings goosebumps to me. This is the feeling I wished to portray in this painting.
